Description

This galaxy cluster is located 260 million light years away in the constellation of Lynx at a declination of +50 degrees.

This small FOV (23 arc-minutes wide) contains 10 NGC and IC objects.  NGC 2340, on the left side of the image, is the largest and brightest of these galaxies. This magnitude 13 elliptical spans 2 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a large diameter of 150,000 light years.

Notice the absence of blue throughout all of these galaxies.  Apparently, there is little new star formation occurring in this cluster.
